Bipo is a free maths game for children aged 4 to 14. It is built to work without collecting data: there are no accounts, ads, usage analytics or third-party tools. This page explains, in plain words, what is stored and where.

In short

  • Progress is saved only on your child’s device.
  • There are no accounts, sign-up, email or password.
  • There are no ads, analytics, cookies or third-party tools.
  • The game doesn’t send data anywhere.
  • Parents can delete everything at any time.

What the game stores, and where

To work, the game stores on the device itself:

In the browser, this data is kept in the browser’s local storage (localStorage) for this site. In the Windows version, it is kept in a folder on the computer. In the phone apps, it is kept in the app’s storage on the phone or tablet. It never leaves: we have no servers that receive it, and the game is set up so that it cannot connect to other sites or send data.

If the phone’s own backup is turned on (Google or iCloud), the app’s progress may be included in it, like the data of any other app. That backup belongs to your account; we have no access to it.

There is no need to use a real name: a nickname is enough.

What we don’t do

Reading aloud

In the Windows version, Bipo’s voice is generated on the computer itself, without the internet.

In the browser, the game uses only the voices installed on the device itself. It skips “online” voices (such as the Google voices in Chrome on a computer or the “Online (Natural)” voices in Edge), because with those the browser would send the sentence being read to its provider. If a device has no voice of its own for the chosen language, the game simply doesn’t read aloud.

In the phone apps, tasks are read by the phone’s built-in voice. On iPhone and iPad, it is generated on the device. On Android, reading is done by the phone’s speech engine (usually Google’s): if the voice for the chosen language hasn’t been downloaded to the phone yet, that engine may briefly use its online voice, and then the sentence being read goes to its provider. To avoid this, download the voice in advance in the phone’s text-to-speech settings, or turn reading aloud off in the parent area (Settings → Reading tasks aloud).

Working offline

So that the game opens without a connection, the browser keeps a copy of the game’s files (pictures, texts and code). It is the same copy for everyone and contains no personal data.

The bipo.pt website

The pages of this site use no cookies, no analytics and no resources from other sites. If you choose a language, the site remembers that choice in your browser’s local storage; it is not sent anywhere.

As with any website, the server that delivers the pages may log technical data for each request (IP address, date and time, the page requested and the browser type). We don’t use these logs for analytics or to identify anyone, and they are not linked to progress in the game.

How to delete the data

If you save a backup (parent area → Settings → Backup → Save to file), that file stays with you. Delete it when you no longer need it.

Children

Bipo is made for children aged 4 to 14. Because we collect no personal data, there is nothing we could share, sell or lose. The parent area can be locked with a PIN, so the settings stay in grown-ups’ hands.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
